Whether you’re promoting an event, marking a construction site, or advertising a sale, a vinyl banner is one of the most cost-effective ways to get noticed. Here’s what to know before you order.
What Is Vinyl Banner Printing?
Banners are printed on PVC vinyl material — durable, weatherproof, and available in a range of weights depending on how and where you’ll use it. Common uses include:
- Event and festival signage
- Shop and restaurant promotions
- Construction site hoardings
- Sports club and school sponsorship banners
- Trade show and exhibition displays
What Affects the Price
Material weight. Standard 440gsm PVC suits most short-to-medium-term uses. Heavier 510gsm+ material is better for banners left up for months or exposed to harsh weather.
Size. Banners are usually priced per square metre, so cost scales with dimensions. A typical 3m x 1m banner costs less per square metre than a small 1m x 0.5m one, since setup costs are spread further.
Finishing. Hemmed edges and eyelets (grommets) are standard for anything being hung outdoors — they stop the material tearing in wind and make fixing to fences, railings, or frames straightforward. PVC banner mesh (wind-through) is worth considering for larger banners in exposed, windy spots.
Full colour vs limited colour. Full-colour digital print costs the same as single or two-colour work with modern printing — there’s rarely a price penalty for going full colour.
Typical Price Ranges
As a rough guide for Glasgow print shops in 2026:
- Small banner (up to 2m²), standard 440gsm: £25-45
- Medium banner (2-5m²): £45-90
- Large banner (5m²+) or heavy-duty 510gsm+: £90+
Eyelets and hemming are usually included as standard rather than charged separately — worth checking when comparing quotes.
How Long Do Outdoor Banners Last?
A well-made 440gsm banner with proper hemming and eyelets typically holds up for 6-12 months outdoors before fading or wear becomes noticeable, depending on sun exposure. Heavier 510gsm+ material with UV-resistant ink can last longer — useful for permanent site signage or long-running sponsorship banners.
